The Parsons Radiologic Technologist Scholarship Fund
This is to inform you, sadly, of the recent death of our friend and colleague, Dr. Greg Parsons. He will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his work in the Charlotte medical community, his patients, and for his empathy, unwavering fairness and respect for all. Greg was an ardent proponent of education, social justice, and environmental stewardship.
Born September 15, 1939 in Lake City, Florida, Greg graduated from the University of Florida and returned there to receive his MD degree in 1969. An internship at Charlotte Memorial Hospital (now Carolinas Medical Center) was followed by a residency in Radiology with subsequent subspecialization in Neuroradiology at the University of Florida.
Greg joined Charlotte Radiology in 1975. He was Chief of Radiology at Carolinas Medical Center beginning in 1986 and briefly Chief of the Medical Staff, before retiring due to declining health in 2001. During his tenure, Charlotte Radiology grew to become one of the largest and most respected radiology groups in the country. Greg helped set and maintain the vision of the group as a tireless champion for quality patient care and service, always keeping in mind what was in the best interest of the patient. In 2002, Greg was elected a Fellow in the American College of Radiology, one of radiology's highest honors.
We have been asked by many of those who knew Greg how they might remember him. Greg was a friend and mentor to many of his medical associates, and particularly to the Staff at Carolinas Medical Center. To honor Dr. Parson's many contributions to patients and his medical colleagues, we have established, through the Carolinas HealthCare Foundation, a scholarship in the School of Radiologic Technology.
