Breast cancer is the second most common form of cancer in women, affecting one in every eight women in the United States. At Charlotte Radiology, we believe the key to beating this statistic and detecting breast cancer early is yearly, quality mammograms (starting at age 40), monthly self breast exams and regular clinical examination.

About Our Breast Services

Experience matters
To get an accurate mammogram reading, you need a high quality image and a good interpretation of that image. Some factors that may affect accuracy are the experience of the radiologist reading your mammogram, technologist who performs your exam and whether the facility you choose has the latest technology in breast imaging.

Charlotte Radiology Breast Center
At Charlotte Radiology, we believe annual, quality mammograms are the cornerstone of breast health. This foundation begins with an impressive staff of board-certified physicians and technologists who specialize in mammography and have all of the latest technologies at their fingertips. By continuously offering compassionate care combined with the most advanced equipment available – such as digital mammography, breast MRI and computer-aided detection - we are the first choice for more than 100,000 women a year.

Currently, we offer 14 breast center locations including a 2 mobile breast centers—all accredited by the American College of Radiology and certified by the FDA. In addition, each center is recognized as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence. Our board certified mammography staff consists of female technologists, who as women themselves, understand the anxieties, fears and emotions you may experience.

Recent advances in breast imaging
Charlotte Radiology is committed to providing our patients with the best mammography options available including computer-aided detection, digital mammography 3D mammography (tomosynthesis) and breast MRI.

Our radiologists utilize Computer Aided Detection (CAD) to further review all screening mammograms. Studies show that the use of CAD may increase the detection rate of breast cancer. It works like a second pair of eyes, reviewing a patient's mammogram after the radiologist makes the initial interpretation.

Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (also known as 3D Mammography) creates multiple images that allow the radiologists to look at different layers of the breast tissue, helping to distinguish normal breast tissue from abnormal breast tissue. Tomosynthesis is of greatest benefit to women with dense breast tissue or for women having their first mammogram.

Charlotte Radiology offers our patients breast MRI. Breast MRI is superior at demonstrating the size and extent of a breast tumor prior to surgery. In addition, it is beneficial for screening patients at particularly high risk for breast cancer due to genetic predisposition or strong family history, diagnosing breast implant rupture, staging breast cancer and planning treatment. MRI also plays an important role in post-surgical and post-radiation follow-up.
