Mammogram Questions

Questions about our services?  You've come to the right place.

Breast cancer affects one in eight women in the United States, making it the second most common form of cancer in women. But according to the American Cancer Society, the breast cancer death rate declined 34% between 1990 and 2010. We believe this good news is thanks to early breast cancer detection: monthly self breast exams, regular clinical examination, and quality annual mammograms. Charlotte Radiology's mobile breast centers bring early breast cancer detection to you, providing women with a more convenient option for breast cancer screening.

Early Detection

Current guidelines from the US Department of Health and Human Services, the American College of Radiology, the American Medical Association and the Society of Breast Imaging recommend annual screening mammograms for all women, beginning at age 40. Mammography is the only screening method that is consistently proven to reduce cancer deaths.

Don't let the wheels fool you! Our mobile breast centers are 38.6-foot-long state-of-the-art breast screening facilities. Each vehicle, staffed by two certified female technologists, features a registration and waiting area, private dressing rooms, and an examination room for completing the mammogram. 3D mammography, or Tomosynthesis, is available by request.

Most appointments take less than 30 minutes from check-in to completion. Once an exam is performed, one of Charlotte Radiology's board-certified radiologists, specialized in breast imaging, will interpret the mammogram and send the confidential results to the patient and their primary care physician. Insurance typically covers the exams at 100%.

Latest Technology

Charlotte Radiology now offers 3D mammography, or Tomosynthesis, on the mobile breast center. An optional service for patients, tomosynthesis can offer better visualization for radiologists who are helping certain groups of patients—particularly those with dense breasts. This improvement in visualization can result in fewer callbacks and better detection of smaller cancers.

Charlotte Radiology's mobile breast centers provide women with a more convenient option for breast cancer screening-ultimately improving compliance. Patients will experience the same quality, compassionate care, expertise and comfortable atmosphere that our freestanding breast centers offer.

Our mobile breast centers have the capacity to bring mammography to 15,000 women annually. We're proud of the miles we've covered and the women we've served, and we're dedicated to making early breast cancer detection not only accessible, but also convenient for all women.
