DEXA Bone Density Scan

March 1, 2026

DEXA, or Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry, is an imaging technology used to evaluate bone density to determine risk for osteoporosis. Osteoporosis, or low bone density, increases the chance of fractures from even the most minor falls and stresses. NEW! You can now add Trabecular Bone Score (TBS) to your DEXA exam – same appointment, no additional scan time – to evaluate your fracture risk (bone structure) so preventive measures can be taken to preserve bone strength as you age. DEXA scans are safe, painless and take about 15 minutes. For your convenience, DEXA screenings can be scheduled during your mammogram appointment at select Charlotte Radiology breast center locations.
