Computed Tomography (CT) CT is a noninvasive test that’s able to generate internal images of the body to help physicians accurately diagnose – or rule out – injuries or diseases. CT is often used to determine the cause of unexplained pain, dizziness or shortness of breath, or to further evaluate areas of interest found in […]

Calcium Scoring Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) is the #1 killer of men and women in the United States. And it can remain completely asymptomatic for decades. Fortunately, a 10-minute noninvasive Calcium Scoring screening exam uses CT technology to detect the amount of calcified (hardened) plaque in your coronary arteries – and determine your risk for […]

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) MRI uses a powerful magnetic field, radio waves and computers to produce detailed images of the body’s internal structures. It’s a safe way for doctors to get an inside look at the body’s bones, organs and tissues – without using radiation. It may be used to help diagnose or monitor treatment […]

X-Ray X-rays, or radiographs, are the oldest and most commonly used form of medical imaging. During an X-ray, X-ray beams pass through the body to create images of the body’s internal structures, helping physicians to diagnose and treat medical conditions. X-ray beams pass through the body to create black, white and gray photos. Dense materials […]

DEXA, or Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry, is an imaging technology used to evaluate bone density to determine risk for osteoporosis. Osteoporosis, or low bone density, increases the chance of fractures from even the most minor falls and stresses. DEXA scans are safe, painless and take about 15 minutes. For your convenience, DEXA screenings can be scheduled during your mammogram appointment at select Charlotte Radiology breast center locations.

Charlotte Radiology performs all screening mammograms using 3D technology as the standard of care. Also referred to as digital breast tomosynthesis or “tomo,” 3D mammography offers better image quality and greater accuracy in detecting breast concerns at an early stage – and at a lower radiation dose. This advanced technology is available to patients at all Charlotte Radiology breast center locations (including the mobile breast center). Most insurance plans cover annual 3D screening mammograms at 100%.
